Before you buy bar risers: Try rotating the stock bars back towards you (loosen the 4 bolts first). Also, keep in mind that a Mustang seat adds 1 inch height and moves you forward 3/4 inch or 19mm, so if you are replacing your seat, do that first.
Bar Risers 4 inches or less usually do not require longer cables. With 4 inch risers. you will need to re-route the cables (also, on ABS models, the brake cable does not have much slack.) Handlebar bolts torque 20 ft/lbs or 27.11 N/m. Check torque a second time after installation. Re-torque bolts after 25 miles.
ABS models – to get a little more cable length, you might need to take the brake line out of that little bracket that is behind the right side of the headlight. if that is not enough, you will need a brake line extension.

Hard to reach bars / needs closer reach to bars – Many people find the stock Rebel 300/500 seat uncomfortable and end up getting it reupholstered or buying a more comfortable seat such as Mustang. A Mustang seat adds 1 inch height and moves you forward 3/4 inch or 19mm – so that puts you a little closer to the bars. Or if you have your stock seat reupholstered, you can have them contour the seat so it moves you forward so, like the Mustang seat, you will be higher and closer to the bars.
