Problem: “Rebel 500 2021, it’s developed a bar shake/wobble when decelerating from about 50mph. It’s most noticeable with a loose grip on the bars and in 3rd or 4th.
Another owner: “When I decelerate from about 30-40 mph and take my hands off, the handlebar starts to wobble. As soon as I put the hands back on it goes away.”
I would lubricate the chain and adjust it. Carefully adjust the rear wheel alignment. I would get a digital tire guage if you don’t already have one. Make sure you check the tires cold. I would try 27 PSI in the front tire. If it still does it, you could just remove the front wheel and take it in to get re-balanced. With the wheel removed, it’s fairly easy to check the balance yourself.
Possible causes: Tires are the main cause- even if they look OK, many times getting new front tires solved the issue. Others are worn wheel bearings, loose or worn steering bearings, rear wheel alignment, heavy loads on rear, mis-aligned forks, fork oil levels not the same in both forks, worn swingarm bushes/bearings, damaged rim
Things to check:
- Elevate the front wheel and spin it to check if the wheel/rim is true. Wiggle the front wheel to see if there’s play in the bearing.
- Has the front tire been balanced? Are there wheel weights stuck on the rim?
- Check the steering head for free-play. Push and pull hard on the bars to see if there’s any wiggle in the steering head.
- Make sure the forks aren’t pinched on the front axle. Loosen one side where the fork clamps to the axle and compress the front end a couple of times, then tighten it back up.
