Installing Eluto tachometer on Rebel 500
Prep – It’s better if your gas tank is not full. You will need a 5/16 inch Allen wrench to remove the tank.

Before you receive your tach
Before your tach arrives, if you want, you can make the ECU connection ahead of time. It is the hardest step in connecting the tach.
Remove the tank bolt (using 5/16 inch Allen wrench). Slide the tank about 2 inches backward until it comes off the mounting “ears”. At this point, you are raising the tank slightly so you can make the wiring connection without removing the tank. Put a cloth under the left side of the tank and carefully lay it on its left side. You can attach bungee cords under the tank to the right side to prevent it from falling.
See pics – push the 3 tabs and lift up the connector plate an inch or two so you have more room to solder. The third wire from the right on the ECU connector (which is a yellow wire) is the wire. Leaving the wire and connector attached, carefully trim the yellow wire so another wire can be soldered to it. If you have received your Eluto tach, solder the yellow Eluto tach sensor wire to this wire.
If you have not yet received your Eluto tach, solder a wire that will be connected to the yellow Eluto tach sensor wire later. Run this wire to the area below the seat. Below the seat is where all the connections will be made – the sensor wire, ground wire, and the power wires.
Things you need to furnish (do not come with tach): 1) a two conductor 36 inch length of wire, and 2) clear tubing to run the wires through.

When you have received your Eluto tach, add a 2 conductor 36 inch length of wire (not supplied) to the wire that comes with the tach. This is not the yellow wire – the yellow wire is already long enough. For the 2 conductor 36” wire (not supplied) – attach one wire to the black wire, then attach the 2nd wire to the white+yellow+red wires that you just wire together. Mount the tach, put the wires in clear tubing, then route the wires from the tach to the area under the seat. Under the seat – connect the ground wire to ground, and connect the power wire to a wire that is switched on/off by the key. If you previously ran the sensor wire from the ECU to here, then connect those wires.
The tach is mounted with the supplied double face tape. I also use a rubber band to hold it for 24 hours. The metal bracket is soft and can be bent to fit the curve of the speedometer better. I mounted my tach slightly higher than the speedometer for more handlebar clearance.

Alternate step –
If you do not want to add a two conductor 36 inch length of wire, you can make your ground and power connections in the headlight bucket, which is more difficult.
Connect the ground wire to the green wire in the turn signal connector – see reference below.
Connect the power wire (white+yellow+red) to the white-red wire in the Hazard connector – see reference below.
For reference, the first connector on the right side of the headlight bucket is for the right turn signal/running light. The wiring is running = striped, ground = green, turn signal = blue.
The second connector on the right side of the headlight bucket is for the Hazard/Emergency switch. The wiring is _____ = gray, switched positive= red-blue, constant on, positive = white-red.

DO YOU REALLY NEED A TACHOMETER? It depends. Most of the bikes I’ve owned had a tach, and with my Rebel 500, I use the tach a lot. I have owned about 10 manual shift cars, and most of them had a tach.
I like to keep the RPM within a certain range, and the tach helps me to do that.
It is even more important with the stock muffler, as you can’t hear the engine very well.
Honda did not put a tach on the Rebel 500 so its selling price would be cheaper.
The other Hondas with this engine have a tach: CB500X, CB500F, and CBR500R.

I believe Glowshift tachs are not intended for use with motorcycles.
https://www.glowshiftdirect.com/tachometers/ These go to 10,000 rpm and can be set for 1-10 cylinders. Per Glowshift, their tachs are for single-fire ignition. Modern bikes like the Rebel 300/500 are single-fire ignition. They are for SINGLE COIL ignitions and require an adapter for multiple coils. “Waterproof” is not mentioned. All reviews are for cars/trucks – no mention of motorcycles.
