Mods – Lowering the 300/500

1).. Shorter rear shocks – You could buy 10.5 or 11 inch shocks (stock is 12 inches).

2).. Front forks – The front forks on some Rebels sag some, so if that is the case, you don’t have to do anything. Before I put in 15w oil, my front forks had 25 mm (one inch) preload sag.

3).. Reduce front fork height – Loosen the upper and lower triple clamps and slide the fork legs up by about one inch max, then re-tighten. Raising the fork tubes in the triple clamps (reducing fork height) will speed up steering/make it steer lighter.

4).. Lower profile tires– I put lower profile Shinko radials on my Rebel 500 and lowered the front by 1.5 inches and the back by one inch. Please see https://wp.me/PdeiSF-Oq

Notes:

A shock which is slightly shorter than stock may alter the head angle slightly and provide somewhat slower steering. Lowering the bike will reduce ground clearance and cornering ability.

The stock rear shock center to center is 11 7/8 inches to 12 inches. Bushings are 14mm. Weight is 4 lbs
