Tach – Lugging an engine

Owners manuals always show “short shifting”. The shift point in the owners manual is hitting 6th gear about 2,000 rpm which could be lugging the engine if you are accelerating or going uphill. Just try the owners manual shift points and the ones in this post and see which one you are more comfortable with. Lugging an engine causes more engine wear and reduced engine life. Personally, I might do 2,000 rpm briefly in second gear, but never in 4th or higher.
