The Mustang seat has deeper foam and is definitely softer and more comfortable than the stock seat. Compared to the stock seat – it is wider and positions you about one inch higher and 3/4 inch or 19mm more forward. Since the seat is both higher and more forward, there is not a huge difference in leg-room – and I am tall. The Mustang seat cradles you – so you cannot move forward or back. If you want to change your position, you can lean forward or sit up straighter. You are more planted with the Mustang seat – the seat holds you in place so you do not slide like around like you do on the stock seat. The seat is supportive – there is some lower back support. It is better at absorbing bumps.
With the stock seat, you can move a little forward and back – so you can get a little more legroom with the stock seat.
Seat height above the bike frame: Stock seat 2.75 inches / Mustang seat 3.75 inches / Royal Enfield 4.25 inches above bottom of bike frame.
Installing the Mustang seat – before you tighten the bolts, push down on the back of the seat and use a bungee cord to hold the back of the seat down. This make it easier to attach the bolts.
Since I bought this seat, I have read where several owners just had their stock seat re-done at an upholstery shop. The cost was $50 USD and higher and some of the seats had two inches of foam added. If I had it to do again, this is what I would have done. The Mustang seat is softly padded but it locks you in place. Having the stock seat re-upholstered is a better deal plus you can move around a little.
The Mustang seat cradles you – so you cannot move forward or back. I added a gel pad on top of my seat, which is a big improvement as it lets you move around some.
