On my 2017 Rebel 500, I removed the right side crankcase cover. It is plastic and attaches with 3 bolts. Honda probably put it there for burn protection, but it protrudes almost 1/2 inch. People complain about the right crankcase sticking out too far on Rebel 500’s – removing the cover helps a lot. You won’t get burned if you wear boots or sneakers with regular socks. (You get burned touching metal that is 120 degrees – the right crankcase runs just slightly hotter than that.) If you remove your right side crankcase cover, make sure you add 7/16 or 1/2 inch spacers when you re-install the 3 bolts.
(I think this problem affects the 2017 to 2019 Rebel 500 more than the model starting in 2020, which has the slipper clutch.)
