Seats – Royal Enfield seat on Rebel 300/500

Mustang seat VS Royal Enfield seat – If you just want to bolt it on – the $350 Mustang seat is a better choice. If you are handy and don’t mind a little work – the $97 Royal Enfield seat is a better seat for the money. The Mustang seat is more cushiony but it cradles you in place (you can add a small cushion to improve this.) The Royal Enfield seat is 32mm (1.25″) wider, is 12 mm or 1/2 inch higher, has good cushion, and you can move around more – it does not cradle you in place like the Mustang seat. You can push back about one inch and sit on the ridge of the seat which makes you about an inch (25mm) higher.

Note: This is unladen height. The laden height is very similar and the Mustang could be a fraction higher.

The Royal Enfield seat softness might improve as it breaks in – I will post an update later.

Royal Enfield is 1.5 inch (38 mm) higher than stock seat and 1/2 inch (12 mm) higher than Mustang seat.

After 2″ foam added, Royal Enfield is 2.5 inch (64 mm) higher than stock seat and 1 1/2 inch (38 mm) higher than Mustang seat. This is unladen height. Using the laden height, the RE seat is maybe .375″ (10mm) higher than the Mustang seat.

Unladen seat height after I lowered bike with lower profile tires (R-E has added seat foam) R-E 29″, Mustang 27.5″, stock 26.5″ ; R-E 737 mm, Mustang 699 mm, stock 673 mm

Seat height with original tires (R-E has added seat foam) R-E 29.7″, Mustang 28.2″, stock 27.2″ ; R-E 755 mm, Mustang 717 mm, stock 691 mm

Stock seat VS Royal Enfield seat – Royal Enfield 350 Meteor seat is larger and more comfortable than the stock Rebel seat. Compared to the stock seat – it is 1″ (25 mm) wider and 3″ (75 mm) longer in front and positions you about 1.5 inch (38 mm) higher and 3/4 inch or 19mm more forward. You can push back about one inch and sit on the ridge of the seat which makes you about an additional inch (25mm) higher. A major problem with the stock seat is that it is too narrow, so just adding padding is not enough – the Royal Enfield seat is 25 mm (1″) wider which helps make it more comfortable than the stock seat.

If you can just barely flat-foot a Rebel 300/500 now, the Royal Enfield seat will probably be too tall for you.

Putting a Royal Enfield 350 Meteor seat on a Rebel 300/500 – the Royal Enfield seat is NOT a plug and play fit for the Rebel 300/500.
