Seats – ..Royal Enfield seat installation – old

This is the procedure using 2 “L” brackets- there is a newer procedure for the Sentry bracket

Go to Home Depot and buy parts A, B, C, D, E, F, and G in the list below.

step 1) Cut off about 8mm off of one “L” bracket as shown

step 2) Drill a 6mm hole as shown is the “L” bracket that you just cut.

step 3) Put the gas tank bolt into the other (uncut) “L” bracket and invert the cut “L” bracket and bolt as shown.

step 4) Add Spacer A and the original washer onto gas tank bolt and install. Tighten the gas tank bolt FIRST and then rotate the cut L bracket into place and tighten the M6 bolt.

step 5) Now that the tank bolt and M6 bolt are tight, bend the top L bracket so the gap is 11 mm or 7/16″. It makes it easier to have a board that is 11 mm so you can use that to check the gap. The open gap should face the REAR of the motorcycle.

step 6) Attach E, F, and G to rear seat tabs as shown. It helps to put tape inside the spacers “F” so they don’t fall off while you are attaching the seat.

step 7) FIRST push the seat so that the seats front tab goes into the gap of the front bracket assembly. To make sure it is in, try to lift the seat in front – if correct, it will not lift. SECOND – attach the two bolts through the rear mounting tabs – the bolts do not go in straight – they must be at a slight angle leaned back – see photo #6.

Mounting for the front of seat – For the stock M8 gas tank bolt, you need (A) one 5/16″ (8mm) x 1/4″ (6mm) spacer, (B) two “L” brackets, (C) one M6x12 bolt, and (D) one M6 nylon locking nut.

C) Home Depot: Model #802528 / SKU #186463 / M6 x12 mm bolt / two for $1.31 USD

D) Home Depot: Model #803688 / SKU #594654 2-Pieces 6 mm-1.0 Zinc-Plated Metric Nylon Lock Nut $0.87 USD for 2 pieces

For the rear tabs, you need (E) two M6 x 35mm bolts , (F) two 1/2″ (12 mm) spacers, and (G) two 1/4″ (6mm) ID x 13/16″ (21 mm) OD washers .

E) Home Depot: Model #844978 / SKU #517208 / two for $2.14 USD

F) Home Depot: Model# 880414 spacer is 1/4″ (6mm) ID x 1/2″ (12 mm) long [9/16″ (14mm) is acceptable]

G) Home Depot: ______________ two 1/4″ (6mm) ID x 13/16″ (21mm) OD washers (3/4″ (19mm) OD is OK)
