DO NOT USE – there is a newer procedure.
[This replaces the original procedure. The change is that the front mount now consists of 4 parts: the stock M8 gas tank bolt, (A) one spacer, (B) one “U” bracket, and the stock washer]
Go to Home Depot and buy parts A, B, E, F, and G in the list below.
part A)..Home Depot: Model #800284/ SKU #368989 / spacer 5/16″ (8mm) x 1/4″ (6mm) / two for $5.07 USD / spacer is 1/4″ (6 mm) long, hole is 5/16″ (8 mm)

part B)..Metal bracket for window blinds (above) – I refer to it as a “U bracket”. It does not need to look exactly like this as long as it is roughly one inch (25 mm) high and wide.
Sources for “U” bracket: 1)..Home Depot Model#: 10793478584048 / Sku#: 1005728921 $5.20 USD Installation order: gas tank bolt, U bracket, spacer A, original washer.
2)..Lowe’s Item #16737 Model #LMINIBRACKETD .. $2.97 USD Installation order: gas tank bolt, U bracket, spacer A, original washer.
3)..Amazon: Low Profile Center Support Bracket for Blinds – 2 Pack $6.79 USD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JMN581C/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_DZWSNNVC25B0M6KS62YK (height is 1.5″ but it will still work. You will be using it upside down, so the widest part of the bracket faces down.) Installation order: gas tank bolt, spacer A, U bracket, original washer.
step 1) Put the gas tank bolt into the longer part of the “U” bracket. The gas tank bolt should face down and the open part of the “U” should face the back of the bike.
step 2) Add Spacer A and the original washer onto gas tank bolt and install.
step 3) Now that the tank bolt is tight, bend the top part of the “U” bracket so the gap is 11 mm or 7/16″. It makes it easier to have a board that is 11 mm so you can use that to check the gap. The open gap should face the REAR of the motorcycle.

step 4) Attach E, F, and G to rear seat tabs as shown below. It helps to put tape inside the spacers “F” so they don’t fall off while you are attaching the seat.
step 5) FIRST push the seat so that the seats front tab goes into the gap of the front bracket assembly. To make sure it is in, try to lift the seat in front – if correct, it will not lift. SECOND – attach the two bolts through the rear mounting tabs – the bolts do not go in straight – they must be at a slight angle leaned back – see photo #6.
